"Mr. Mackey taught school for many years in Red Cliff, being superintendent of the former Red cliff Union High. He served in various official capacities on the Red Cliff Town Board and fire department, being instrumental in the formation of that department. Mr. Mackey worked endlessly to improve living and recreational conditions in Red Cliff, and was partially responsible for the formation of the water and sanitation district for that town." -- Eagle Valley Enterprise, December 2, 1971
