The letter was written on stationary for the Windsor Hotel, considered one of the first "luxury hotels" in Denver. The Windsor Hotel was located at the northeast corner of 18th and Larimer streets in downtown Denver, Colorado. Sam sent another letter to James Dilts the same day concerning the same subject.

The Park Hotel opened its doors in the 1890s, and burned down in 1913, in a fire that destroyed many buildings in the town of Hot Springs and caused $10 million in damage. The fire was one of the most costly in Arkansas's history.
