This real photo postcard, featuring a group portrait of a man, a young girl, and an older woman, was likely created in the early 20th century at some time after 1908. The individuals in the photo have yet to be identified. The image was developed on a type of Artura Photographic Paper stock that was produced between 1908-1924.

"Guard detail at Camp Vail, May 9, 1920" - caption on photo verso. This photograph is in a collection of the army photographs of George Frey, Red Cliff resident, and he is presumed to be in the photograph.
Despite the namesake, Camp Alfred Vail was at United States Army base Fort Monmouth in New Jersey and was a training center for the signal corps. The United States Signal Corps was founded in 1860 and has played integral roles in military communication, technologies, and logistics since the Civil War. Fort Monmouth was closed in September of 2011 and is now a historic district.
