Army Truck at Construction

A pair of Army Reserve officers drive a large truck on the construction site of the new Bailey Bridge. The truck is marked "US ARMY 05B57671".
The Bailey Bridge was constructed in the mid 1960's (1967-1968) by the 244th Company of the 4th Engineer Battalion, United States Army Reserve based at Fort Carson, Colorado. Local men including Claude Gerard and Dan Koprinikar, county commissioners at the time, were part of the project. The Bailey Bridge was erected where the current roundabout in Avon, Colorado is today, directing traffic to Beaver Creek.

Arthur "Art" Stremme

Arthur "Art" Stremme stands near a fence in Gypsum. Stremme was a member of the first graduating class of the Eagle County High School. His father, Theodore Stremme, owned the Stremme Store and served as the postmaster for Gypsum from 1905 to 1935.
