Balanced Rock
Photo postcard of the Balanced Rock in the Colorado River near the Kirby ranch [former Quinlan place]. John Ambos' horse in photo. "...when the Dotsero Cut-off was built the river was relocated and shifted south to avoid a sharp curve in the track, which isolated the rock in still water. Balanced Rock, Garden of the Gods
A stereoscopic view of the Balanced Rock, located in what is today the Garden of the Gods park near Colorado Springs. This stereoscopic view was one of 500 that were awarded the "Silver Medal of Colorado Industrial Association of 1878 and 1879. It was published by Charles Weitfle of Central City, Colorado. "This wonderful and beautiful scenery is on the D. & R. G. R. R. 75 miles south of Denver, and near Colorado Springs and Manitou, some of the best Views are - Balancing Rock - The Twins - Buena Vista Grotto - Needle Rock - Garden of the Gods and Cheyenne Mt. Aunt Dianna - Jacob's Ladder - General View of Glen Eyrie - Tower of Pisa - Major Domo - Devil's Punch Bowl - Rift in Rocks Major Domo Group, &c., &c."
