Basalt Public School
-
A postcard of the Basalt Public School. The Basalt Public School was originally located in a small one-room frame structure until the late-1890s. The school was relocated to this building, which sat on the border between Eagle County and Pitkin County. In 1902, the building was expanded from a one-room school house to a four-room, two story brick building, pictured here. The bell was removed from the bell tower in 1914, due to structural concerns, dating this image between 1902 and 1914. The school was occupied until 1938, when the new school opened. This building was torn down soon afterwards. The bell has been preserved.
