- Around 1930, local dairymen in Mesa County, Colorado decided to affiliate with the Challenge Creamery Association of California. Several Challenge-affiliated creameries then opened on the Western Slope, with one in Grand Junction, one in Plateau Valley, Montrose, Eckert, Hotchkiss, and Cortez. C.H. Hinman promoted the Challenge group in Grand Junction, and was aided by Levi Morse.
