Molina Baptist Church (Molina, Colorado)
According to the website of the Molina Baptist Church, it began in 1900 under the name First Baptist Church, and was founded by members of five families. It became the Plateau Valley Baptist Church in 1905. The name changed to Molina Baptist Church in June of 1906 when the area gained an official name (perhaps as the location of an official US post office). A Sunday School room was added in 1949. In 1956, the building was moved onto land donated by Mr. and Mrs. Tom Currier. The building was destroyed and a new building was erected on the same site in 1981, according to the church’s website.
Mon-Ark Shrine Club (Salida, Colo.)
Otherwise known as Al-Kaly Shrine Club, Mon-Ark is on the corner of Sackett and G in Salida, Colorado.
Monarch Airlines (Colorado)
A commercial passenger airline founded in 1955. It later became ‘Frontier Airlines’ (although not the same as the present company of that name). Their office, located in the rear of the new Citizens Finance building at 4th Street and Rood Avenue, opened in Grand Junction, Colorado in 1955. According to Frank Simonetti, who worked in the same building, their grand opening was attended by the ‘Pink Poodle Posse’, a collection of girls dressed in pink with pink-colored poodles. They had routes to Montrose, Gunnison, Cortez, Farmington, Durango, and Alamosa. In their early days, they variously used DC-3s, Convair 340s, Convair 580s, Convair 727s, and Convair 737s.
Monarch Aviation (Grand Junction, Colorado)
Monarch Aviation was formed by pilot Clyde Davis and his business partner Harold Pabst in 1952 (not to be confused with Monarch Airlines, which later became Frontier). It formed from the ashes of two former companies: Valley Air Service and Rader Flying Service. The company gave flying lessons and also provided a flying and transport service. It greatly expanded business during the uranium boom. As of 1981, it was still in operation, with Pabst's son John serving as President and Clyde Davis serving as Vice President and General Manager.
