Mount Garfield Chapter - Daughters of the American Revolution (Grand Junction, Colorado)
The Mt. Garfield Chapter of DAR was organized on February 22, 1910 by Maria Bleeker Wheaton. The organization took place at the LaCourt Hotel in Grand Junction. Over the years, members of the organization have preserved many aspects of local history with the placement of plaques and with research that contributes to preservation. Such plaques include a marker showing the crossing point of the Colorado River on the Old Spanish Trail, and the site of Grand Junction’s original town company building. Charter officers included: Fannie (Kent) McClintock (regent), Josephine (Rich) Pearce (recording secretary), Jessie Adelaide (Morse) Plumb (corresponding secretary), Martha (Cushman) Hamilton (treasurer), Frances (Hereford) Wheeler (registrar), and Fannie (Phillips) White (historian). Other charter members included Charlotte (Augur) Baylis, Alice Elizabeth (Bittinger) Buthorn, Lois (Strain) Craven, Wyche (Delbridge) Desch, Samuella (Foster) Dyke, Hazel (Butler) Garma, Minnie Katherine Henderson, Claribel Aline (Olds) Krohn, Merle Miller McClintock, Narcissa Pillow Sam (Huston) Marshall, Abby (Hill) Meserve, Laura (Crowe) Mosely, Gertrude (Perkins) Ohl, Emma Jerusha (Chatfield) Page, Lola F. (Kinard) Price, Mrs. Robert A. Ross, Hettie E. (Vance) Rundle, Carra (McClure) Shackleford, Clara Merrill (Bateman) Smith, Helen Smith, Mary E. (Taylor) Strain, Laura M. Salida, Colorado's newspaper since 1880. The Mountain Mail has had various names throughout it's history: The Mountain Mail, the Salida Mail, the Salida Daily Mail, the Salida Record-Daily Mail.
