Western Airlines (California)
A major airline, based in California, that maintained flights throughout the Western United States. The airline began in 1925 and merged with Delta Airlines in 1987. According to oral history interviewee Walter Dalby, Western was the first airline to fly out of Grand Junction. Its Grand Junction route was purchased by United Airlines prior to Western’s merger with Delta. *Some information taken from Wikipedia.
Western Colorado Health Network (Grand Junction, Colorado)
It began in 1983 as the Western Colorado Aids Project (WCAP), part of the statewide Colorado Aids Project organization. WCAP arose in response to the AIDS epidemic of the early 1980’s. WCAP worked with community partners such as student government at Mesa State College to help distribute condoms and disseminate information about AIDS.
Western Colorado Milk Association
According to Hilda Ann (Walther) Cary, who ran a dairy farm in Loma with her husband Joseph H. Cary, it was an organization composed of local dairy producers. It assisted farmers with the sale of milk to dairies in the 1950’s and possibly before.
Western Colorado Producers Cooperative (Mesa County, Colorado)
An agricultural cooperative organized in 1937, with Harry Bridges of Palisade serving as the first manager. It helped farmers market and ship produce. They used the mountain lion brand associated with their predecessor, the Grand Junction Fruit Growers' Association. The Western Colorado Producers Cooperative became the Cooperative Producers Association, and then Mountain Lion Fruit, Inc. in 1961. In 1971, Mountain Lion Fruit was bought out by the United Fruit Growers Association.
