Baptist Church (Palisade, Colorado)
According to oral history interviewee Ann (Reese) Stokes, the Baptist Church in Palisade was located near the lumber yard when her family moved to Palisade in 1904. She describes the church then as a small, square house. Eventually, a new structure was built for the church on a more prominent corner in town (circa 1910). Stokes and her family attended the church, and her father Thomas Reese sang in the church choir until his death in 1915. Stokes recalls attending a missionaries circle at the church. They made quilts and bandages for soldiers and sent cards and letters to missionaries. The church held Sunday School before worship. It also held a young people’s meeting in the evening. An annual Sunday School picnic was also held.
