GROFE'S "vALLEY OF ENCHANTMENT" PREMIERE HIGHLIGHTS 2TH ANNIVERSARY MUSIC CAMP AT WESTERN STATE COLLEGE OF COLORADO
"The Valley of Enchantment", Symphonic Band Suite, Ferde Grofe's musical depiction of the Gunnison Country, will be premiered at the 1958 Summer Music Camp. Grofe will conduct the performance. Announcement of this "first performance" to be played at the final music camp concert, August 22, 1958, was made by President P.P. Mickelson of Western State College. The suite will be in three movements--The Great Divide, Gunnison Valley, and Black Canyon.
At the suggestion of Mr. E. J. McCauley, Educational Director of the Big 3 Music Corporation of New York City, Grofe agreed to compose "The Valley of Enchantment" and conduct the first performance in Gunnison next August. Through the cooperation of Mr. McCauley, President Mickelson and Robert Hawkins, Director of the Music Camp, arrangements have been completed for the premiere.
"The Valley of Enchantment" will take its place among the many distinguished compositions of Grofe, such as "Grand Canyon Suite," "Death Valley Suite," "Hudson River Suite," "Tabloid,","Mississippi Suite," "Hollywood Suite," "Steel" and many others.
Dr. Hawkins, director of the Summer Music Camp, will make the symphonic band arrangement of "The Valley of Enchantment.", [Valley of Enchantment Suite - 1956] cw
