Bus from 1950 Football Team Monarch Pass Malfunction
Description
Abandoned in a field near Parlin sits the most famous bus in Western's history. On November 18, 1950, it was carrying the football team to Canyon City for a game with Adams State College. Descending Monarch [Pass], the bus suddenly lost its brakes and the gear shift popped into neutral. While the driver fought to hold it on the road at speeds that reached over 100 miles an hour, the players, at his command, shifted their weight from one side to the other to help hold the vehicle on the curves.
