Freight train near Minturn

A freight train near the town of Minturn. Taken in the 1980s or 1990s. The railroad employee next to the diesel locomotive is unidentified. The front diesel locomotive is an EMD GP40-2, and is number 3100. The Denver and Rio Grande ordered 37 EMD GP40-2 diesel locomotives, all of which we transferred to the Union Pacific Railroad following a merger between the two railroads in 1996.

"Frenchy's Cabin," in Red Cliff, was owned by the Tetreault family of Red Cliff. Members of the Tetreault family worked in Red Cliff and Gilman at the Eagle Mine, which was owned by the Empire Zinc Company.
