A view of Ben Bolt's home near Minturn. Ben Bolt, along with his brother S. F., settled on a ranch above Minturn. Bolt was the namesake for Bolt's Lake near Minturn. The Empire Zinc Company purchased the land in 1917, "intending at the time to establish their mining headquarters on Battle Mountain in the adjoining flats." -- Eagle Valley Enterprise, March 10, 1922
Ben Butler Family
"The Butler Family in 1912. The year they arrived on the Conger Mesa and made their home on what is presently the Black Mountain Ranch. Here are Helen, Ben, Katherine and Roger." -- McCoy Memoirs p.266 Katherine "Kate" Johannbroer Butler inherited the ranch from her mother, Helene Johannbroer, in 1911.
