- Shirley Welch authored, The Life and Times of Frank Doll, a biography dedicated to the remarkable Eagle County local historian, rancher and storyteller. Welch was the 2009 recipient of the Nimon-Walker Award from the Eagle County Historical Society; the award honors outstanding contributions to Eagle County history. Welch has authored two other local histories, Vail: the First 50 Years and The Eagle River Valley, both published by Arcadia Publishing, and collaborated with the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Museum on writing projects. A longtime resident of the Eagle River valley, Shirley Welch writes living histories for hospice patients.
