- Sue Smedstad
- Sue Smedstad arrived in Aspen in 1965 after graduating the University of Oregon. She began working for the Aspen Skiing Company and retired as Vice President of Administration in 1989. In retirement, Sue focused her time on non-profit work in the areas of health, human services and youth issues, serving on many local and state boards of directors. Sue was a founding board member of Aspen Youth Center, Aspen Community Foundation, Aspen Hall of Fame, Aspen Hope Center, Hospice of the Valley, Response, Roaring Fork Leadership, and Valley Partnership for Drug Prevention. She has also served on the boards of Aspen Valley Medical Foundation, AVH Volunteers, Alpine Legal Services, and the Aspen Counseling Center. She is a Trustee of the Women’s Foundation of Colorado and on the Colorado Supreme Court Advisory Council. She has received numerous honors, including serving on the Governor’s Executive Council of Communities for a Drug Free Colorado, appointment to the State of Colorado Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division Advisory Board, Colorado Mental Health Association Volunteer of the Year, Colorado Lieutenant Governor’s award recognizing an individual for excellence in Substance Abuse Prevention, the Greg Mace Pitkin County Volunteer of the Year award, Colorado Cares Centennial Award for outstanding volunteer service, Sojourner Magazine Salutes Outstanding Citizens, Roaring Fork Leadership Distinguished Leader award, and Aspen School District Citizen Volunteer of the Year for founding and coordinating the annual 8th grade Girls to Women and Boys to Men conferences. Sue also co-chaired the successful local campaigns for Helping from the Heart, a ballot issue on county funding for health & human service agencies.---Aspen Hall of Fame bio
