Tom Swain

A metallurgist and store owner in Paradox Valley, Colorado who gave kids money in exchange for collecting perfect arrowheads. He collected thousands of arrowheads from the area and sold them to the British National Museum in the late 1800's, where they were put on display. The arrowheads were apparently made by North American Indians from the Basketmaker culture.

The warden at Cañon City in the early Twentieth century. He raised pheasants there and distributed them among friends in Colorado. He was responsible for a flock of pheasants in the Roaring Fork Valley.

He was born in Illinois and moved from Missouri to the Steamboat Springs, Colorado area with his wife and family in the early 1880’s, where they were among the earliest homesteaders. He died and is buried in Parma, Idaho.
