- Darwin Burford's grandfather. A.J. originally lived in Georgia, and was a Confederate soldier in the Southern Army during the Civil War. U.S. Census records show him living in La Veta, Colorado with his wife and children by 1880. He worked as a cattleman in Colorado and passed away because of a heart attack in Whitewater, Colorado. Father of Mary (Dodgion) Burford.
