Wyatt Mower Wood
He was born in South Dakota to Luther W. Wood, a freight agent, and Carolyn "Carrie" (Mower) Wood, a homemaker. The 1900 US Census shows Wyatt living in Wisconsin with his parents and siblings at the age of twelve. By 1920, he was living in El Paso, Texas with his wife Ethel (Lynch) Wood and children. There, US Census records state he was a financial manager. He came from Texas in 1921 in order to become the manager of the Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce, a position he held for 32 years. As the director, he helped organize the annual Mesa County Fair at Lincoln Park. He was also involved with the construction of Rim Rock Drive, which runs over the Colorado National Monument. He helped to arrange the first marching band competition in Western Colorado, and presided over the tournament's organizational meetings. He also worked at the First National Bank in an advertising and public relations capacity, and took scenic photography.
