Arthur Theodore Thompson
Superintendent of the Ohio and Colorado Smelter in Salida, Colorado, early 20th century.
Arvid Muhr
In 1909 he came to Fruita, Colorado, where his father and uncle homesteaded. Muhr attended school in Sweden for the first few years, and continued in Fruita. Because of a lack of water rights, they abandoned their homestead, and eventually bought land on L Road, where his father farmed. During its construction, Muhr and his brother worked on the Highline Canal. He also worked for ten years on a hydroelectric dam near Palisade (possibly the dam built on the Orchard Mesa Power Canal in 1933). Then in 1939, he began growing peaches on East Orchard Mesa, and continued to farm until 1971 when he sold his land. A member of the Central Orchard Mesa Community Church, Muhr also enjoyed fishing hunting and carpentry. *Photograph courtesy of the Palisade Historical Society.
