Bill Andree
William Walter “Bill” Andree was born 1 August 1956 in Ithaca, New York to Robert Andree and Marie Sherry Andree. He spent his youth in Jacksonville, Tompkins County, New York and attended Charles O. Dickerson High School in Trumansburg, New York. After two years at Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, New Hampshire (1974 – 1976), Andree transferred to Colorado State University in Fort Collins. He graduated with a B.S. in Fishery, Biology, and Zoology. In 1980, Bill Andree began working for the Colorado Division of Wildlife (later Colorado Department of Parks and Wildlife). From 1981 until 2018, Andree served as District Wildlife Manager for the Vail District. In 1985, Andree was named Colorado Wildlife Officer of the Year by Shikar-Safari Club International. In 1991, the Colorado Trappers Association named him Wildlife Professional of the Year. Andree supervised the Colorado Lynx Survey crew from 1991 to 1993. He also supervised the first study of bighorn sheep in the Gore Range. In 1992, the Colorado Chapter of The Wildlife Society awarded Bill Andree the Professional Achievement Award in Wildlife Management. Andree subsequently worked on elk disturbance studies with three graduate students and a doctoral student. In 1995, the wildlife scholars, including Andree, collaborated on the journal article, “Effects of Ski Area Expansion on Elk,” for the Wildlife Society Bulletin. In 2007, he was honored with the Wildlife Lifetime Achievement Award by the Colorado Division of Wildlife. Andree retired in 2018. Bill Andree enjoys horseback riding, hunting, fishing, lacrosse and skiing. He is married to Kim Webster Andree and they have a daughter, Adeline, and a son, Ethan. The Andrees currently live in Priest River, Idaho.
