Captain George Wray

A gold prospector who, along with William Doyle and Joseph Hahn, found gold near the foot of Hahn’s Peak in Routt County. In 1866, Wray left to get provisions in Empire, promising to return shortly. He never returned, and Doyle and Hahn starved, with Hahn finally succumbing to starvation and the elements.

An old California miner who, along with his partner Philip Arnold, salted a field on Diamond Peak in Colorado giving it the appearance of an area rich in diamonds and other precious stones. He enriched himself by selling a claim for an enormous sum in 1872, before his misdeed was discovered.
