Clyde Sherman Davis
-
Clyde Davis was born in Kim, Colorado to James Florence Davis and Rosa Alice (Shults) Davis. He was working for Gran Rader Flying Service in Glenwood Springs, Colorado in 1950, when he was about 28 years old. He was the chief pilot for Rader and its all-around handyman. He came to Grand Junction in 1950 in order operate a branch of the company after it bought the Valley Air Service from Glen McFall and Floyd Gregg. In 1952, Davis purchased Rader and formed Monarch Aviation with Harold Pabst. Pabst received permission to use the Monarch name from Frontier Airlines, which had recently formed from the similarly named Monarch Airlines.
The business expanded greatly during the uranium boom of the 1940's and 1950's. As of 1981 the company was still in operation, with Davis serving as the company's general manager and vice president.
