A Jewish man from New York who moved to Glenwood Springs, Colorado where he worked as a tailor. There he married his boss’s daughter and the couple moved to Grand Junction. In Grand Junction, he opened up a tailor’s shop and included a general clothing section. According to Al Look, he was a personable man and because of this, excelled at sales. His clothing store burnt down in 1938, at which time he rented his store to C. C. Anderson.
He was only formally educated through the fourth grade. He was a member of the Rotary Club and the Masonic Lodge. He was named the Exalted Ruler of the Elk’s Lodge.
He was born Mike Pepe to Italian immigrant parents. Early Twentieth century cowboy and rodeo rider. Worked as a projector in a movie house. Brother of Joseph "Joe" Peep and John Peep. Son of Giuseppe "Joseph" Pepe. A member of the Fruita Union High School class of 1927.
Michael Rawlings graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism with a B.A. in Photojournalism. Rawlings was the longest running photographer for The Vail Trail (1984 to 1991) and has won a plethora of awards for newspaper photography. Rawlings began a freelance career in 1991 and currently operates Vail Photography. He is married to Heather Dorf Rawlings.
