Neil Ramsey
Neil was a student at H Street School in the late 19th century.
Neil Straayer
He was an immigrant from the Netherlands who came to the Grand Valley in 1911. He was a fruit grower and farmer, working for himself and others, in the Hunter District, Appleton, Fruitvale, and other areas of the Grand Valley.
Nell Morrow
She lived in Crested Butte, Colorado when it was a mining town and moved to Hotchkiss, Colorado. According to Helen (Young) Johnson, she was a tough, large woman who could take a man under each arm and knock their heads together. She was also very kind-hearted. When Helen’s mother Emily (Scatliff) Young became ill due to frailty and abuse by her husband, Nell nursed her to health.
Nellie (Carnahan) Robinson
A country school teacher from Wisconsin that taught in the Disappointment Creek Valley in Southwest Colorado in 1897. Her diary noted the poor conditions of the log building that housed the school. “In many places the mud had fallen out. If a child wanted to look at anyone passing, he would peek between the logs.” She goes on to explain the presence of Wood Rats that would steal various school supplies and hide them under the floor boards. Wood Rats were also believed to have subjected the children to Measles, Mumps, Chicken Pocks, and Pink Eye. .” She married Sam Robinson, a rancher.
