Olney E. "Ollie" Bannister
-
Owner of the Bannister Furniture Company. He was elected to the State Senate in 1918 and retired in 1934. He was then the regional manager of the Home Owners’ Loan Corporation, a New Deal agency. As a State Senator, he put through the bill that placed Mesa College (now known as Colorado State University) in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was a good friend of Walter Walker, publisher of The Daily Sentinel and state Democratic Party power broker.
According to Clifton farmer Thomas Campbell Jr., Bannister owned fruit farms out toward Palisade, and could be seen driving his motorcycle from Grand Junction in route to check on his orchards.
