Paolo "Paul" Celeste Nardin
Paolo (Paul) Celeste Nardin was born January 29, 1873 in the town of Faver, which was part of the Austrain Tyrol. His parents were Bortolo and Lucia Nicolodi Nardin. He was the oldest of five children, including Lucia, Giovanni, Luigi, and Tereso. Paul immigrated to the US in 1898 and went to Ouray Colorado to work in a mine. He then went to work in the Smuggler mine, in Telluride, Colorado. After the mine fire, he bought the San Juan Saloon and Hotel in Telluride. This is when he met his wife, Dominica Dalpaz. Paul and Dominica had three children together; Emma, William, and Esther. In 1924, Paul and Dominica sold the San Juan Hotel. Paul pursued mining claims, and became the owner of the Nellie Mine. He was forced to sell the mine in 1942, by the government, so he became a janitor at the Elks Club. He and Dominica moved to Grand Junction in 1957, to be closer to Emma Oberto (their daughter). Paul died at the age of 85 on February 6, 1958.
