In a retrospective video covering her period as Artist in Residence at 970West Studio in Mesa County Libraries, interdisciplinary artist Rebecca Woods talks about the intense curiosity about the world that inspires her to create. She describes the many artistic mediums in which she works and her favorite artistic form, the art installation. She discusses the ethos of experimentation that she embraces in artistic creation, and the role of the audience in creating meaning from art. She speaks about the beneficial aspects of her interaction with the public during her residency, and about the predominately digital aspect of that interaction during the Covid-19 pandemic. She talks about the influence of pop art on her work, her preoccupation with the “darker aspects” of existence, and the importance of play in creation.
