Kevin Foley, Frazier's and Lionshead Gondola: History Nugget with Tony Mauro

In 1979, Kevin Foley landed his first job in Vail as a bartender at Frazier's Restaurant. Frazier's was located in the Lionshead Gondola Building in the Lionshead Village area of Vail. Foley, who eventually served as a Vail Town Council member for twenty-three years, recalled his unusual skier service while working at Frazier's.
In 2023, Tony Mauro, the Voice of Vail, conducted an oral history with Kevin Foley as part of the Vail Valley Voices oral history project of Vail Public Library.
The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) photograph of "Frazier's Bar" was captured by photographer Ron Hoffman in February of 1974.

Lorraine and Harley Higbie - Oral History

Lorraine and Harley Higbie met skiing in Zermatt, Switzerland. Harley Higbie was an original member of the Vail Associates Board of Directors and Lorraine Higbie was active with the boards of Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, Denver Botanic Garden and Denver Art Museum. They were early residents of Vail and active in the community's life and activities.

Lyle Viers discusses his experiences at a ski instructor at Vail (Colorado) and Mammoth (California). Viers began teaching at Vail in 1967 and has taught skiing over 55 years. Hailing from a family of miners, the Viers family lived in Minturn, Gilman and Leadville in the 1950s.
