Dr. Jack Eck discussed his family and youth in the Pocono Mountains of northeast Pennsylvania, his early medical training, his duty as a 101st Airborne Division Flight Surgeon in Vietnam, being hired by Vail's first physician, Dr. Tom Steinberg, and his first week experience offering medical aid during a cave-in at the Gilman Mine, being an innovative skiing physician with the Vail and Beaver Creek ski patrols, advocation for addiction and mental wellness support with Gerald and Betty Ford, and the creation of the Shaw Regional Cancer Center and Jack's Place., Tony Mauro used content from several Town of Vail oral histories in his compilation oral history of Dr. Jack Eck.
