Dr. Jack Eck was born and raised near the Pocono Mountains of northeast Pennsylvania. As a youth, he was active in scouting and outdoor activities. After his undergraduate studies at Muhlenberg College, Eck attended Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia. He served as a Captain and Flight Surgeon for the 101st Airborne Division “Screaming Eagles” during the Vietnam War.
After his military commitment, Dr. Eck was hired by Vail’s first physician, Tom Steinberg, M.D. In the late 1970s, Dr. Eck became the first Medical Advisor for the Vail Ski Patrol, as well as the first physician to serve on the ski patrol. Dr. Eck was crucial in the establishment of the Shaw Cancer Center.
