Kim Fuller Collection - no. 7: Widge Ferguson Poses with Her Original Skis
Description
Alice "Widge" Ferguson poses with her original, customized wooden skis and beartrap bindings behind the Edelweiss in Vail Village. Widge's first skis were fitted with metal edges by her aeronautical engineer father, Andrew Willgoos. Although metal edging was eventually popularized by Howard Head, Willgoos may have pioneered this innovation. After Head learned that Widge Ferguson was Willgoos' daughter, Head expressed great admiration for her father's creativity and ingenuity.
Gore Creek and the International Bridge are in the background. The photograph was created by granddaughter Kim Fuller and taken behind the Edelweiss., This image is no. 7 of 10.
