In 2022, John Dakin was inducted into the Colorado Ski and Snowsports Museum Hall of Fame as a Sport Builder.
In this Vail Valley Voices History Nugget, Dakin reflects on his favorite moments during the FIS Alpine Ski World Championships held in Vail and Beaver Creek. Specifically, Dakin notes Mikaela Shiffrin's win at the 2015 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup event win at Beaver Creek, as well as Tamara McKinney's 1989 gold medal win in the combined alpine ski event in Beaver Creek. Dakin believes McKinney's effort "saved" the Championships.
