Hired in January of 1963, Jim "JC" Clarke was a member of the original Vail Ski Patrol. Ski patrol personnel of that era needed to be game for new experiences and a jack-of-all-trades. In this Vail Valley Voices History Nugget, Clarke discussed repair of the first telephone wires on Vail Mountain. Lodgepole pines that swayed readily in the wind served as poles for the phone lines. JC Clarke was interviewed for the Vail Valley Voices oral history project of the Vail Public Library by Tony Mauro, the "Voice of Vail."
