Bill Heicher and Bill Andree established legacies as District Wildlife Managers with the Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW).
Heicher began with Colorado Game, Fish and Parks Department (later DOW) and served the Eagle District from 1971 until 2003. Andree began with the DOW in 1980 and served the Vail District from 1981 until 2018. Circa 2012, the DOW evolved into Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
In this remarkable oral history, Heicher and Andree shared their wildlife experiences and concerns. They also discussed the evolution of their positions from local game wardens, who were hands-on and research-oriented wildlife caretakers, to law enforcement officers who managed nuisance wildlife as a result of habitat destruction., The image depicts Eagle County game warden, Bill Andree, working with a bighorn sheep during winter conditions.
