Item Types (MODS Genres) for XML Forms

Academic Paper

Includes theses, dissertations, senior projects, and any other papers or research produced by students.

Art

For all types of art, public art, sculptures, 2D art, videos, images, etc.

Article

For individual articles such as those from a magazine or standalone articles. For articles produced by students, teachers, or professors, use Academic Paper. For items such as meeting minutes or organization policies, use the more generic Document.

Book

Use when the object being digitized is a book. This is NOT necessarily related to the book content type, rather this is describing the original item being digitized.

Compound
Document

Use for documents that are neither academic papers or articles. For example: transcripts, meeting minutes, policies, technical requirements, etc.

Image

Use for photos as well as digitized images. Do not use for documents or articles, even though the digitized file might be an image file.

Magazine

Use for full issues. For magazine articles, use Article.

Music Recording

Use for audio recordings that are primarily music. For music videos use Video. For audio recordings that are more speaking than music, use Voice Recording.

Newspaper

Use for individual ISSUES of a newspaper. For individual articles, use Article.

Video

Use for all videos.

Voice Recording

Use for oral histories, interviews, speeches or any recording that is primarily a person speaking.
