Hannah Martin served as the twenty-first Mesa County Libraries Artist in Residence at 970West Studio. The dates of her residency were May 1- August 7, 2023. During the residency, she kept open studio hours at 970West on Tuesdays from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm, allowing her to showcase her work with ceramics, multimedia artwork, and her creative process for Mesa County residents. She also gave six public, educational programs: Make a Pinch Pot (Thursday, May 11, 2023, 6 pm), Central Library Children’s Area Event Description: Children and families can play with clay and learn the technique of making a pinch pot. Intro to Clay Surface Design (open to adults and teens) (Tuesday, May 16, 2023, 5 pm), Clifton Branch Event Description: Learn and practice Sgraffito and Mishima clay surface design techniques using greenware (fragile, unfired ceramic) bowls to be donated to the Empty Bowls Project in October. No experience is necessary. Supplies are included. Work through artist’s block and practice simple exercises designed to help promote creative habits to fill your sketchbook. No drawing experience is necessary. Supplies are included, but participants are welcome to bring their own.
