Jose Simon Marquez, who is often known as Joe Marquez, discusses growing up on his family's Spanish Land Grant ranchito in New Mexico. Marquez also discusses his experiences playing 'goodwill' baseball for the Third Armored Division while reconstructing Europe in the 1950s, working for McDonnell Douglas in California, relocating to Minturn and working with the US Forest Service and the Town of Vail, his early entrepreneurship in the Eagle River and Gore Creek valleys, and being a founding father of Vail., Please also see Joe Marquez - Oral History part 2.

In 2022, John Dakin was inducted into the Colorado Ski and Snowsports Museum Hall of Fame as a Sport Builder.
In this Vail Valley Voices History Nugget, Dakin reflects on his favorite moments during the FIS Alpine Ski World Championships held in Vail and Beaver Creek. Specifically, Dakin notes Mikaela Shiffrin's win at the 2015 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup event win at Beaver Creek, as well as Tamara McKinney's 1989 gold medal win in the combined alpine ski event in Beaver Creek. Dakin believes McKinney's effort "saved" the Championships.
John Dakin is interviewed by Tony Mauro, the "Voice of Vail.", This 2020 Vail Daily photograph captures John Dakin with Jen Mason, Vail Town Council member and Executive Director of the Colorado Ski and Snowsports Museum. In 2022, Dakin was inducted into the Colorado Snowsports Hall of Fame.
