Jack Eck, M.D. - Oral History
In 2020, a series of oral history interviews with Jack Eck, M.D. were performed and professionally compiled by the "Voice of Vail," Tony Mauro. Chupa Nelson and Elaine White Kelton are featured narrators in Mauro's oral history compilation of Dr. Jack Eck. Dr. Jack Eck discussed his family and youth in the Pocono Mountains of northeast Pennsylvania, his early medical training, his duty as a 101st Airborne Division Flight Surgeon in Vietnam, being hired by Vail's first physician, Dr. Tom Steinberg, and his first week experience offering medical aid during a cave-in at the Gilman Mine, being an innovative skiing physician with the Vail and Beaver Creek ski patrols, advocation for addiction and mental wellness support with Gerald and Betty Ford, and the creation of the Shaw Regional Cancer Center and Jack's Place., Tony Mauro used content from several Town of Vail oral histories in his compilation oral history of Dr. Jack Eck.

Jack Phillips Family - Family Sawmill on Muddy Creek
The family of Jack Phillips gathers at their sawmill operation located on Muddy Creek near Piney Mountain in northeastern Eagle County. The sawmill provided timber for the Gilman Mine prior to its closing. Johnnette and Jack Phillips are in the center of the first row. After their wedding in 1955, this was Jack and Johnnette's first home in Eagle County.
Jack Phillips Family - Wedding at Piney Lake
The Phillips family gathers to celebrate the wedding of one of Jack and Johnnette Phillips's granddaughters at Piney Lake in northeastern Eagle County. Johnnette Phillips reported there were intermittent clouds that day. Prior to the wedding, a background cloud formed that was in the shape of a perfect heart.

Jim "J.C." Clarke - History Nugget with Tony Mauro
Hired in January of 1963, Jim "JC" Clarke was a member of the original Vail Ski Patrol. Ski patrol personnel of that era needed to be game for new experiences and a jack-of-all-trades. In this Vail Valley Voices History Nugget, Clarke discussed repair of the first telephone wires on Vail Mountain. Lodgepole pines that swayed readily in the wind served as poles for the phone lines. JC Clarke was interviewed for the Vail Valley Voices oral history project of the Vail Public Library by Tony Mauro, the "Voice of Vail."

Jim Cotter came to vail in 1962 and was a founder of the landmark art movement Summervail Art Workshop. He shares his story with Tony Mauro, the "Voice of Vail" and former Vail Trail journalist Tara Flanagan.
