1980 Skiing Magazine Jebbie Browne article - page 3
Legendary Vail Children's Ski School instructor, Jebbie Browne, wrote a children's book on skiing. An excerpt was published in the December 1980 issue of Skiing Magazine. This article, "A Small Ski Lesson for Small Skiers," is found on page 116. American Ski Classic ca. 1990 - Fords and Gramshammers
Left to right: Pepi Gramshammer, President Gerald R. Ford, First Lady Betty Ford, Sheika Gramshammer, and Bob Knous. Beginning in 1960s Vail, the Ford and Gramshammer families became close friends. This image was probably captured at the 1990 American Ski Classic in Beaver Creek at a Diners Club Ford Cup celebrity ski event. Gramshammer also raced in the American Ski Classic Legends of Skiing event. Knous was president of Vail Valley Foundation between 1986 and 1990. The image is courtesy of Colorado Snowsports Museum in Vail, Colorado., Colorado Snowsports Museum associates, Dana Mathios, John Dakin and Jen Mason, and MaryClare Van Dyke from Vail Public Library assisted in identifying the event and date of the image.
Back Bowls of My Memory - Acrylics: Kathryn Wheeler Collection
This acrylic painting was created by Kathryn Wheeler in 2007. It is entitled "Back Bowls of My Memory" and was inspired by Wheeler's experience skiing in the Back Bowls of Vail Mountain.

In 1987, Mrs. Ford accepted a VPL book signing invitation for her autobiographical effort, Betty: A Glad Awakening. VPL Reference Librarian Dean Willms issued the invitation through Mrs. Ford’s personal secretary and the event was held on 11 March 1987. Mrs. Ford effectively removed the stigma of addiction and alcoholism with this seminal publication. Charlyn Costello Canada was the VPL Director of Library Services during Betty’s Ford’s 1987 book signing. Jane Hart, owner of The Cheese Shop in Vail and wife of District Court Judge Richard Hart, hosted a lovely tea service break for Mrs. Ford. Alongside Mrs. Ford in this series of images is Mary Catherine Moser; Moser assisted Mrs. Ford throughout the event. Verbatim Booksellers underwrote many of the expenses. Bull Moose in "Bullwinkle Alley" near Piney Lake: Photo by DOW Bill Andree
This stately bull moose photograph was captured by Colorado Division of Wildlife officer, Bill Andree in fall of 2016. Andree's game warden territory included the Gore Creek Valley, Piney Lake and Piney River area of Eagle County, Colorado. Andree noted that a willow dominant wetlands near Piney Lake is nicknamed "Bullwinkle Alley," due to the prevalence of moose.
